Also known as Glastonbury or Glasto, the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is an arts event that is most famous for its musical aspect attracting major musicians and bands. Dance, theatre, comedy, cabaret and circus performances round out the event. Held over three of four days, this outside festival permits tents and caravans. It began in the 1970's as part of the hippie movement and this attitude still prevails somewhat with efforts at making this event family friendly; there is even a special Kidzfield. Attendance is around 150,000 people. Despite its name, the location of the festival is nearer Pilton than Glastonbury.
