York's Snickelways
+ My Favorites
Snickelways refer to the small alleyways and footpaths, usually between buildings or walls, winding throughout the historic city of York, England. The narrowest snickelway is less than a metre wide (2.5 ft) and they range from very short to 67 m (220 ft) long. Many of York's city and ghost tours include the snickelways.

+ My Favorites
The Yorkshire Wheel is a smaller version of the London Eye and opened in York in 2006. The wheel, which is part of the National Railway museum, has 42 pods and is 54 m (177 ft) high - about the same height as the famous York Minster. Passengers are allowed more than one rotation and can enjoy views of the Minster, the Roman Walls and the city beyond. The wheel is licensed for weddings and sometimes features Valentine's Day speed dating events.

The Bar Walls of York
More Info
|
+ My Favorites
A sightseeing visit to the historic city of York is not complete without touring the Bar Walls, also known as the Roman Walls or the York City Walls. Measuring approximately 4 m (13 ft) high and 2 m (6 ft) wide, the walls were first constructed in the 1st and 2nd centuries by the Romans and added to over the ages by the Vikings and later the Normans. Featuring five bars (gateways), 45 towers and running 3.4 km (2 mi) in length, the walls are the most complete in England and easy to experience via a self-guided walk.
