Walk this street and you are abound to feel as if you zigzagged back in time to the Elizabethan period. In medieval times, several butchers sold their products here. Now, the shops are avante garde. An important building on the street is the home of Margaret Clitherow, the woman in the 1500s who was convicted of harbouring Catholic priests and holding regular masses. She was put to death by pressing (being crushed by a heavy mass), and canonized in 1970 for her acts.
