River Esk
The River Esk flows approximately 28 mi (45 km) from the North York Moors to Whitby where it empties into the North Sea . The Esk Valley Walk, a long distance footpath, follows the river from Castleton to Whitby.

North Sea
The North Sea lies between Great Britain and Northern Europe and has played an important role in the histories and development of the countries it borders. The northern coastlines of the sea tend to be characterised by high plateaus and steep cliffs on the UK side and fjords on the Denmark/Norway coasts while the southern coastal areas feature sandy beaches and mudflats that are prone to flooding.
