Less than 10 minutes south of Ripon is Newby Hall, a stately home built in the 1690s under the guidance of Sir Christopher Wren, most well known for designing St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Expanded a century later, Newby Hall is a striking example of elegant Georgian architecture and is surrounded by 10 ha (25 acres) of award-winning gardens, including a garden area specifically for children. Open April through September.
