Built in 1071 as defense against the Norman Conquest of England, Richmond Castle is one of Britain's oldest Norman fortresses and enjoys an imposing position above the town of Richmond and the River Swale in North Yorkshire. Great views of the countryside and the market town can be seen from the towering keep, while folk lore holds that King Arthur lies sleeping in a cave under the castle.
