Nunnington Hall, located in the tiny village of Nunnington near Helmsley, is one of Yorkshire's elegant and well-known stately homes, now in the care of the National Trust. The manor house dates at least to the 13th century and was once home to the doctor who served Henry VIII, Edward VI and Elizabeth I. The grounds include a 17th century walled garden that is now entirely organic.
Located near the town centre of the historic and quaint town of Helmsley, Helmsley Castle consists of the impressive ruins of a medieval fortress and the imposing banks and ditches that surround them. Started by a Norman baron in the 12th century, the ruins have recently undergone renovation by English Heritage and the site features a modern visitors centre with a range of information, tours and exhibits.
