Considered to be one of the finest abbeys in England, Rievaulx Abbey is located in the tiny village of Rievaulx just north of Helmsley. The remains of the 12th century abbey and its refectory, its idyllic setting and the uber quaint village of Rievaulx make the site a popular and well-deserved North Yorkshire attraction. The entrance fee includes headphones in English, French and German as well as access to the onsite museum and the abbey grounds. Open year round except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Byland Abbey The ruins of this 12th century abbey are visible just outside the small village of Coxwold in North Yorkshire and feature an impressive west wall, the remains of a huge rose window and some original medieval floor tiles.
