The historic Lancaster Castle, which sits perched on a hilltop inside the town, is still used as a crown court and a prison. The castle has a long dark history that includes such events as the Lancashire witches. The part of the castle used as a prison cannot be toured, but guided tours of the remainder of the castle are available.
