Welcome to Blackpool, LAN!
Situated north of Liverpool and Manchester on the west coast of England is the country's most quintessential seaside town—Blackpool. For over a century the destination has drawn visitors to its piers and kitschy beachfront entertainment, and what was popular then—its promenade and tower, donkey rides, fish and chip shops, theatres and lights—continues to define the small city today.Blackpool Tower, which is a Grade 1 listed building inspired by the Eiffel Tower and constructed in 1894, dominates the cityscape at its height of 158 m (518 ft) and is home to several attractions, including a skywalk observation deck. Blackpool Pleasure Beach also got its start in the 1890s and has grown to become the country's busiest theme park with over 125 rides and attractions, and a four-star hotel. When visitors aren't riding its thrilling, white-knuckle rides, they can enjoy Blackpool's sandy beaches, cabaret entertainment, galleries such as Madame Tussuads and hundreds of accommodation and restaurant choices. And every autumn, the seaside town comes alive with light in what is the destination's signature event—the Blackpool Illuminations. The annual lights festival started in 1879 and runs for over 60 days from early September to early November. The electric extravaganza stretches for 9.7 km (6 mi) along the town's promenade and uses over a million bulbs.
